I built this DIY Mini-Bike to prove to my work colleges that I have skills other than just fabrication and welding. I have rated this project as a reasonable success due to my limited knowledge of motorcycles and with this being my first attempt at building such a vehicle.

At first I was going to build one from a pre-fabricated kit but decided that the kit’s delivery cost was too high, so came up with the design from researching old fashioned mini-bikes.

Estimation of the size of frame to construct was not easy, but it seems to have turned out to be more suited to an adult than a child. I would not let any child ride this min-bike due to its violent acceleration and limited safety features.

All parts were sourced within Australia except for the band-brake which I purchased from the USA. Frame is made from 20 NB heavy wall pipe, cut down to 22mm OD tube for the throttle grips. Seat shape was designed by myself and made by a professional upholsterer. Rear wheel is an off road go kart tyre. Front wheel is a trolley wheel. Engine is a brand new Honda GX 200 6.5 HP. Gearing is 7:1 via a 12 tooth to a 85 tooth rear sprocket, approximately giving speed of 35 km/HR. Foot pegs are made from 16mm diameter deformed bar. Rear axle is 25.4mm diameter with 25mm bearing holders. All machining was done locally in Brisbane.
