SDK 125 gokart build
Project started as a old kart rolling shell we picked up for $200. My son and i stripped it down and re welded all the broken bits and tidied it up. After making the rear section we added a floor and a Briggs and Straton motor that soon blew up. A new motor was sourced from a 1981 Suzuki TF125 (2 stroke) that had been sitting in a shed for 20 years (FREEBY). As you could imagine after sitting for so long, the motor had siezed and the gearbox had lost 3rd and 6th gears . So, we pulled it down and rebuilt it. To get the motor bike engine to fit in a gokart we needed to fabricate a whole new engine mounting system, chain adjustment and gears system. All 4 rims were straightened with wet weather tyres and new bearings all round. Brakes are single disc standand system with all new parts. A new 9ltr fuel tank and fuel pump takes care of the smelly stuff and front and rear spoilers add to the look factor. Testing was fun with the kart doing 60kph in the carpark at work in 3rd gear. The engine when new had between 22 to 25 HP. Seat yet to be sprayed - looking at spraying this blue with silver stripe.
