Daniel's "4getoil" Electric Go Kart
An ambitious high school project which involves all custom work and modifications of "off the shelf" parts to make it compatible with an electric drivetrain.
This is a DC powered E-Kart that runs on 60V worth of Deep cycle batteries. Electric motor means 100% torque from the moment you put your foot down, in our case 85 NM of torque is available from 200 RPM. Current achieved top speed is 65 Km/h verified by GPS but will do 70 if road is long enough. Acceleration from low rpm to mid rpm is mind blowing. Handling is stable and fun because of a low centre of gravity (all the weight of batteries and driver and motor are between the wheels) plus a low ride height (just clears speedbumps).
The chassis is completely custom made from steel tubing and reinforced with a steel plate floor pan. The motor/controller is an off the shelf kit designed for electric tuk truks in China. Back axle is a modified 30mm solid steel ARROW brand . Braking hardware is all from Cut price racing Hubs/ Spindles/ Tie Rods/ Tyres and Rims are from China and have been modified to fit. Autotechnica steering wheel.
The hubs for the back wheels had to be modified to fit the axle. We took 30mm Flanges, hammered them into a slightly oversized hub and then we drilled a hole through the hub and axle and threaded through a high tensile bolt to hold everything together.
