This guide is designed to assist with basic teardown and assembly of GX160 and GX200 heads. The basic procedure is the same for most 4-stroke pump-style single cylinder engines.
The following picture guide shows the steps to tear down the entire GX200 head assembly. Installation is the reverse of the tear down guide, except you will need to ensure clearances between the valves and rockers are set according to the stock or modified settings whcih can be found in the engines guides section of this website.
1. Remove rocker stud locking nuts
2. Remove rocker adjusters
3. Remove rocker arms
4. Remove valve spring retainers (push down and away from the cutout to pop them off the valve stem)
5. Remove valve springs
6. Remove valve stem seal (from inlet valve)
7. Remove rocker studs
8. Remove guide plate
9. Remove valves
