SIM RACING FEATURED DRIVER PROFILE

DRIVER PROFILE- Aussie Mixed & Fixed (AMF) online iRacing Club

JUSTIN COTTERILL

MONDAY NIGHT SERIES - "Supreme Leader"

"he is [ed] one of the top Oval Legends racers in the country, and can steer just about anything LEFT at a grate rate of knots. "

"He’s a great guy and I love racing against him"

"he is one of the reasons i still sim race, due the friendly open culture he has created in the AMF league."

"He's provided us all a place where we can race each Monday and walk away every time smiling"

"Justin is a super-nice, polite, thoughtful, down-to-earth, normal every day guy who loves a steer."

Justin has been running AMF for 7 years next month - but why is he, and AMF so successful?

The theme when discussing Justin among the league with members is that Justin is considered the saviour of their online racing careers.  Why?  Perhaps it's because Justin has the patience of a saint - he's one of the friendliest humans on the planet and treats everyone with great respect.  He's always the first to congratulate winners and always the last to point a finger (except in race control, where he deals with incidents with a quick message with something along the lines of "hey, John was a bit frustrated with your incident with him tonight" and you're left with no doubt at all that you need to go patch up the friendship so Monday nights are cosy and warm again)

Perhaps it's because Justin puts everyone else first, and often sacrifices his own races to sort out incidents - except when it comes to the Advanced Legends Series where his unrivalled skill turning left has launched him to the top of the driver championship this season.

Justin's fairness doesn't just win awards off the track, but also on the track - recently being awarded a coveted iRacing prize for finishing multiple races without incident in his championship - something most of us members didn't even know existed - which is how Justin tends to roll.

Whatever the reasons, Justin has managed to create a tight-knit community of Monday night racers that are warm and welcoming to newcomers - and judging by the 30+ entries he receives on various nights as well as the cheeky "can you approve my friend John's league request" seen over the text chat in each server - the atmosphere and style of racing produced is appreciated by the wider community too.

Impressively, Justin's brand is so intuitive that it has been expanded into Sunday nights with the DEV series each Sunday night, regularly attracting huge fields of drivers keen to race in a series with real values and close friendly but competitive racing.

Here's what some of the members had to say about Justin.   We won't name names just so we can keep Justin guessing!

AMF Member 1:
Aussie Mixed and Fixed has been Justin's baby for as long as I've been a member of Iracing. Every Monday night regardless of the circumstances Justin has provided us with a fun yet competitive place to race. Even on the Monday nights Justin isn't available, there will be a session and the race will go on. Also credit where credit is due, Justin does a fantastic job of multi-tasking when it comes to racing and race controlling simultaneously. There have been many occasions where Justin has sacrificed his own race or missed out on an epic battle to ensure that Monday's run as smoothly as they do. Justins efforts on the point scores AKA his beloved spreadsheets week in and week out along with the AMF social media updates never go unnoticed, making league members feel part of something special. Its for these reasons all of the AMF league members are super grateful for their "Supreme Leader". Personally I don't know if I'd still be an Iracing member at all had I not stumbled across AMF when I did, thanks Justin for keeping it fun. Justin's driving has proven him to be one of the fairest guys on track, and has really stepped up his road racing game over the last few months. Don't even think about sticking with him when it comes to an oval though, as he is (by his own admission) one the top Oval Legends racers in the country, and can steer just about anything LEFT at a grate rate of knots.

AMF Member 2:
Since having known Justin his speed every race has just gotten better and better, he loves causing mischief on Facebook pages and is very witty with some of his comebacks but has a great sense of humour and an even better personality, he doesn’t complain about anything and when he does it’s always got everyone in hysterics. He’s a great guy and I love racing against him

AMF Member 3:
The man has probably the driest sense of humour going around, with many subtle jokes going over most heads. Always the gentleman racer, until its legends on oval tracks then he owns the track. On a personal note, he is one of the reasons i still sim race, due the friendly open culture he has created in the AMF league.

AMF Member 4:
Justin has provided us all a place where we can race each Monday and walk away every time smiling.  Justin once decided running the Lotus 49 at Monza Oval was just your usual Monday night affair… And we all quickly learned that Lotus airlines was a thing - with horrible but light food!

AMF Member 5:
Justin puts everyone else before himself, just like we're all his kids - he puts in the hard yards for no monetary reward - churning out results, schedules, and advertising upcoming or previous races during his busy life.  I respect Justin so much for his consistency, with several kids, a wife and a full time job to juggle most of us would expect him to get stuck some weeks - but he doesn't, he keeps the servers coming at us week in week out for free with a degree of certainty greater than our chance of being alive tomorrow!  But most of all, Justin is a super-nice, polite, thoughtful, down-to-earth, normal every day guy who loves a steer.

CLASS Monday Night

RACE NUMBER 10

RACING EXPERIENCE Speedway Archerfield street stocks and four cyclinder club. iRacing 8 years

HOBBIES Sim Racing, BBQing steak (that is a thing right?) and playing with power tools

THIS YEAR'S GOAL My goal this year is finish upgrading my old gear, just wheel to go. Get a Podium on a Monday night road race by merit not default, complete at least one official series and race the iRacing Bathurst 1000

THIS WEEK'S DIY GUIDE

 SteeringGuide

GUIDES - Converting a 2-stroke chassis for a 4-stroke engine

Go Racing the cost effective way - 4-Stroke racing is now a massive sport nationally!  By converting your kart to accept a 4-stroke engine you'll have access to the network of 4-stroke clubs around Australia offering low-cost, family focussed fun!

You can find our favourite kart clubs here: https://www.cutpriceracing.com.au/store/Club-Directory/

There are loads of other reasons you may want to convert a 2-stroke kart to a 4-stroke kart, many of them having a great deal to do with practicality. 4-Stroke engines are much more user-friendly for recreational and off-road uses, they're generally a lot cheaper, and they require a lot less maintenance. Replacement parts are inexpensive and readily available, and there are considerably more transmission choices such as torque converters.

We are frequently asked how hard it is to convert a 2-stroke chassis to run a more practical 4-stroke engine so in this straightforward guide we're going to run you through the process.

It's easier than you probably think!

We'll run you through step by step in our quick and easy guide by clicking here.

Looking for this engine in our store? You can get yours today by clicking the ad below.

FRIDAY NIGHT FUN

Every Friday we'll be posting one of our fantastic customer DIY projects or somewhere you can go to race your kart.

This week we take a ride in the water truck around the dirt track at Queensland Raceway (Hattonvale & District Dirt Track Kart Club) near Willowbank in QLD to give you an idea of the layout and what it's like to drive around the track.

Hattonvale & District Dirt Kart Club takes advantage of the immaculately prepared track lovingly cared for primarily by Ipswich City Dirt Kart Club. Presented as one of the best kept dirt kart tracks in Australia, the facility regularly attracts over a hundred karters a weekend.

Hattonvale & District Dirt Kart Club runs a mix of 4-stroke and 2-stroke karts with a basic set of rules and a focus on family fun, without points being scored - making racing fun with a strong element of community. Karters interact in a friendly manner here, swaping knowledge so it's a great place to start karting with lots of experience on tap to take advantage of when setting your kart up.

The long and fast main straight can see karts reach well over 80kph on the dirt - an adrenalin rush for the drivers and a spectacle for by-standers. The first corner is a fast left hander when operating in the counter-clockwise direction which requires skill and good brake setup to ensure the necessary trail braking is enough to slow the rapidly moving kart to set up the hairpin, but yet not too much which will result in the kart spinning off into the safety run-off area. The track has been updated to ensure safety is paramount at this technically challenging corner - it's a great place to watch the action!

The next section of the track is tight but presents drivers with modulation skill to tuck in tight and regularly ensures ample passing opportunities for the brave. Spins are common in this central area of the track and with it's proximity close to the main spectator area the track is one of the best to get a great view of the action.

The back straight favours drivers with a quick exit from the esses - which can be tricky if closely followed as leaving room on the inside can allow savvy drivers to sneak up the inside, slowing the approach on the back straight and allowing karts behind those to exit the corner wider at a better speed. This can result in a challenge into the relatively light chicane before the last corner and can be the difference between winning and losing as the setup for the last corner onto the final straight will determine top speed down the fast main straight again.

With such a fantastic spectating area, Hattonvale & District Dirt Kart Club offers one of the best social days out in Queensland. Coupled with the friendly family-focused atmosphere as well as low-cost engine classes and fair firm enforcement of rules along with removal of point scoring making racing less agressive, it's the ideal place to begin your karting career, or to casually race a weekend away.

VIDEO Geoff's Lotus Build EPISODE 40 & 41 DOUBLE HEADER!
FRIDAY NIGHT FUN DOUBLE HEADER!  Geoff's Scale Lotus Build EPISODE 40 & EPISODE 41

EPISODE 40 "In this episode I paint the inside and now the cubman is ready for assembly" - Geoff

EPISODE 41 "In this episode I paint the inside for the third time and now the cubman IS getting assembled. I put together the engine cradle and install the complete fuel system to the chassis for good..." - Geoff

If you love Geoff's build (like us) then you can show him your support by subscribing to his youtube channel - juscozcustoms -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afoeOfJZJRs

You've seen that dream car - the deep gloss paint glistening in the sun, beckoning you closer to touch it's smooth surface - to open it's door, jump into the driver's seat and turn that key (or press that button if your dream is a bit more modern). And then the reality hit's - it's not yours - and worse still, you can't afford it. It's the reality most of us motor enthusiasts suffer on a a daily basis. BUT WHAT IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO JUST DREAM?

That's when Geoff decided it was time to change the rules. Affordability didn't have to get in the way of his dream! He chose to build his own - a 1/2 scale version of a Lotus 7. BRILLIANT! We agree! Thinking outside the box or square or circle is what Geoff is also talented at, and because his project is going to be just as much fun, he's decided to take us all along for the ride! Thanks Geoff!

This is Geoff's thread. Using CPR Kart Parts components, Geoff willl build his very own 1/2 scale Lotus 7. Keep an eye on this thread AND subscribe to his youtube channel to keep updated! We'll also be sharing his videos on our facebook page.

Want to know more about Geoff? Here's a bit of a run-down on the man behind all the fun:

What is this awesome thing you've built?
"1/2 scale lotus 7"

Why did you decide to build this project?
Thought it would be cool and can't afford to build a full size one YET...

What is still left to do to finish it?
"Lots of little things then body work."

What are you going to do with it when it's finished?
"Glorious drifts using a pair of cpr drift rings and maybe even get it on a gokart track"

Why did you buy your parts from CPR?
"Good quality parts at an affordable price "

What was the best thing about the CPR parts you used?
"I can't fault them. The machining and finish is perfect"

What other motorsport stuff are you into?
"I build custom cars not necessarily race cars but they can go fast"

You can follow Geoff's build along with us on his thread on our site, including all the videos as they are posted on youtube here:
https://cutpriceracing.com.au/store/PROJECT-Geoff-Garth-s-1-2-Scale-Lotus-7/

Also had some visitors from other clubs they enjoyed the day and asked heaps of questions and are coming back next month and bringing others.

All Australian Mower Racing Championship Race Meet!

The 2019 All Australian Mower Racing Championships were held in Shepparton on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of May 2019.
There were 89 Registered Entries from all QLD, NSW, SA and Victoria with Delegates from New Zealand fling over for a look.
Unfortunately on the day before Qualifying and Racing was to commence, Shepparton had more Rain in one day than they had had for the Year, making things very muddy and wet.

A day behind schedule due to the rain, it was decided amongst organisers and Club Delegates to Shorten the Program and get on with Racing.

Luckily the Sun Came out, and with no more sign of Rain, the Event Carried on with Qualifying , heats, Great food and Live Entertainment on the Saturday Night, continuing on the Sunday with more heats and some very competitive Finals Racing, everyone who had stayed on and braved the wet and mud had a great weekend.

Sure, it's a big claim, but I know shopping online is all about getting it before the weekend race day, and that's why I'm absolutely dedicated to getting our gear out the same day you order. I believe so strongly that this is a critical component of our business that I've devoted the last two hours of the day to ensuring just that. Don't be surprised if I can't get to the phone during these times as we're probably flat out! Just leave me a message and I'll call you back asap.

I know if you've bought from us before, you've had a great experience. Nothing's changed with our focus - we still want to help the average Australian race, but we're expanding our range every day so I'd love for you to check out our latest website updates and see if we can help you again, today. Go on, visit our store at www.CutPriceRacing.com.au - I mean, surely you've got a couple of minutes for fun?
