WEEK 33 2019 CPR KART-BEAT UPDATE

PaulsFace Hi there!

Welcome to our fortnightly update.

In the last two weeks, we've exprienced some crazy weather with snow falling around the country in the south - severely impacting racing.  It's also been Ekka week in Brisbane (Royal Brisabne Show  Day) which has been an awesome distraction and a bit of a holiday for some - if you had a day off we hope you enjoyed your time!  QLD had a great couple of weekends of racing - being super lucky with the weather - and we report back on what happened at a few of the clubs in our new section below.

LATEST DIY GUIDE: This week we discuss the process of installing a CPR rear axle assembly in our second installment in our RT Racing Go Kart Assembly series - scroll down to find it below.

CLUB NEWS.  This week

FEATURED DRIVER PROFILE:  This week, we're featuring Shona Wong, a committee member and competitor at Ipswich City Dirt Kart Club Inc (Willowbank QLD).

FRIDAY NIGHT FUN:  This week we check out last year's inter-school challenge in anticipation of this year's exciting race coming up in October.  We'll also watch Geoff as he finally drives his awesome Cubman in his (Scale Lotus 7) video series.

NEW PRODUCTS - Find out about about our new products first, we'll be including in each issue the latest items to arrive and one or two hot products of the week.

SHIPPING INTERRUPTIONS & HOLIDAYS- Our phone hours have changed - due to a staff shortage we are now offering only email support on Fridays - shipping will be normal on fridays though.  Scroll down to find out what's happening.

If you prefer not to receive these emails, click the unsubscribe link at the top or bottom of this email - and if you want to keep receiving our emails then you don't need to do anything at all! Just sit back and check out the fun each week!

Oh, and don't forget to jump online and check out our store to make sure you've got everything you need to race this coming weekend!

DriverProfileIconPHONE HOURS CHANGE (temporary)

WE'RE OPEN FRIDAYS (with email support)
No phone support Fridays temporarily.

We have some staff on leave, so our staff level is temporarily reduced.  We've decided to concentrate on ensuring we get your orders out super-fast like usual, so if you're buying from the store you'll notice absolutely nothing at all.  However, in order to do this we've had to cut back on phone support on Fridays - if you need help, we're concentrating on email - it's fast, you'll generally get a reply within 15 minutes as we're keeping a close eye on it on Fridays.  So if you've got an enquiry, email us and we'll help you out.  If you have an order on Fridays, you can place your order in our safe and secure web store and we'll send it the same day as long as it's paid by 2pm (just like normal).

This week, we're featuring Shona Wong, a committee member and competitor at Ipswich City Dirt Kart Club Inc (Willowbank QLD)

Shona is a shining example of the family based fun our community loves - and she's showing all the girls how it's done. Shone is not only competitive, but she's putting in the hard yards, helping the committee provide access to the facility for all karting motorsport fans to have fun - each week!

And she's doing all this while at the same time teaching 3 of her own wonderful kids about life, and karting.
We congratulate you Shona, on your service to our beloved sport, as well as your determination and passion!
Well done Shona! You're our featured profile this week.

GUIDES - CPR RACING GO KART ASSEMBLY SERIES

Rear Axle Assembly & Installation

This month we're showing you how to install our Axle Assemblies into a vehicle. In this guide we'll show you how to install it in our DIY RT senior kart kits. The process is the same no-matter which vehcile you are installing into except you may have some of the items in different locations.

REAR AXLE FIT KIT

1x 40mm Axle Shaft
2x Wheel Hubs
2x Bearings installed in Bearing Carriers
1x Sprocket Hub
1x Brake Hub & Disc

1x Axle Fitting Kit:
4x Axle Keys
6x M8x50 Black Hex Socket Head Countersunk Bolts or Silver Hex Head Bolts
6x M8 washers
6x M8 Nyloc Nuts
6x M6x25 Black Hex Socket Head Countersunk Bolts or Silver Hex Head Bolts
6x M8 Studs
12x M6 washers
12x Nyloc nuts

Rear Axle Assembly & Installation

Rear Axle Assembly *PLEASE NOTE – SOME PICTURES MAY SHOW THE 3-BEARING MODEL, YOUR STANDARD KIT IS A 2-BEARING ITEM.  IF DESIRED A THIRD BEARING MAY BE PURCHASED FROM US AND CAN BE INSTALLED.  6 pieces Partially assembled (2x Bearings and hangers, 1x Sprocket hub, 1x Brake hub and disc, 2x Wheel Hubs) *FIT KIT Axle Fitting Kit (See fit kit contents in the fit kit section)

Pre-Assemble Sprocket hub.
a. Attach your sprocket to the hub using the 6x M6 bolts, washers and nyloc nuts.

Pre-Assemble the axle.

The axle shaft has keys set in different locations for 4 stroke or 2 stroke use.  For four stroke use (in-board sprocket), you will not require the keyway second from the right.  Orient your axle assembly so that when you look at the rear of the kart, it is set as per the diagram above.
The two outer keys are for the wheel hubs.  Centre keyway (3rd from the right) is for the sprocket hub, the keyway second from the left is for the brake hub.
If you are using the axle for 2 stroke purposes (outboard sprocket) you will not use the centre keyway and your sprocket hub will use the keyway second from the right.

4-Stroke Assembly procedure
***NOTE: You will need the 4x 3mm thick spacer washers from the chassis fit kit for the rear axle assembly installation – they look like the picture below.

a. Insert the correct size key in the centre keyway, and the keyway second from the left.

b. Slide the Sprocket hub and sprocket over the axle from the right side with the protruding flange facing toward the left side of the kart and over the key in the centre keyway.

c.  Lightly tighten the locking bolts. **LEAVE THE SPROCKET HUB LOOSE ENOUGH TO SLIDE ALONG THE SHAFT FOR ALIGNMENT AND FURTHER ASSEMBLY LATER IN THE KIT**

d. Slide the brake hub and disc over the axle from the left side with the protruding flange facing toward the left side of the kart and over the key in the centre keyway.

e. Lightly tighten the locking bolts.

f. FOR A THREE BEARING AXLE ASSEMBLY Slide a bearing and hanger assembly onto the right side of the axle, with the protruding flange facing outward toward the right side of the kart.  Do not tighten the locking grub screws yet.

g. FOR TWO AND THREE BEARING AXLE ASSEMBLIES Slide a bearing and hanger assembly onto the right side of the axle, with the protruding flange facing inward toward the left side of the kart.  Do not tighten the locking grub screws yet.

h. Slide another bearing and hanger assembly onto the left side of the axle, with the protruding flange facing toward the right side of the kart.

i. But up against the brake hub.

j. Insert the two remaining keys in the outer keyway locations.

k. Slide the wheel hubs onto the ends of the axles with the studs facing outward.

l. Position the hubs even with the edge of the axle and tighten.

m. Lift the completed axle assembly into the rear of the kart, ensuring the bearings locate within the brackets.  You may need to shift some of the hangers and hubs to locate correctly.

n. Insert the 3x M8x50 Countersunk bolts in each bearing holder as per the next step.

o. Push each of the top two bolts through an M8 countersunk washer, then through the chassis bracket, then through a 3mm thick M8 spacer washer (from the chassis fit kit), then through the bearing hanger, then secure with an M8 *nyloc nut.  Do not tighten fully.

p. Push the bottom bolt bolts through an M8 countersunk washer, then through the chassis bracket, then through the bearing hanger, then secure with an M8 nyloc nut.  Do not tighten fully.

p. Repeat the process with the 3 M8x50 Countersunk bolts in the bearing brackets and bearing carriers on the other side.   Do not fully tighten all bolts yet.

q. Check the to see if the axle shaft is centred correctly by measuring from the outside of each of the outer brackets to the inside of each of the wheel hubs.  If the measurements are different, slide the shaft until  the distance is equal.

r. Tighten all bolts.

s. Tighten the grub screws in each of the bearings.

t. fit the included M8 studs to the wheel hubs (it is recommended to use Loctite on the wheel hubs to ensure the studs do not wind out over time – or alternatively ensure they are checked regularly.

Well Done!  You've successfully completed the assembly of the rear axle!

FRIDAY NIGHT FUN

Brisbane Inter-School Go Kart Challenge

FRIDAY NIGHT FUN - I BET YOU WISHED YOU WENT TO THESE SCHOOLS!

This week's friday night fun segment offers something a little bit different - the Brisbane Inter-School Go Kart Challenge - where students build and race their own karts!

Every Friday we'll be posting one of our fantastic customer DIY projects. These have been designed and built using quality CPR kart parts by guys and girls just like you! There's some really exciting stuff to check out, so keep an eye out each Friday for our next instalment!

At CPR Kart Parts, we're often asked about our motivations in the industry we're in.  One of our major focuses is to support initiatives that provide fun and safe venues for kids (and big kids) to race.  That's why we're heavily involved with the majority of family-focussed clubs around Austraila.  We also support opportunities for kids and students and young adults to encourage responsible racing, like the Inter-School Go Kart Challenge.

WHAT IS THE INTER-SCHOOL GO KART CHALLENGE?
Each year, Andrew Devoy from Marist College Ashgrove in Brisbane co-ordinates a brilliant curriculum segway running the inter-school go kart challenge.  There are currently 7 schools from around Brisbane competing in the challenge, offering students hands-on classroom based kart-design and manucture - providing an exciting and practical learning experience with a dash of good old fashioned fun when, at the end of the year, they assemble at the Ipswich City Dirt Kart Club venue to decide who has built the fastest and most reliable kart during the year.

Needless to say, Andrew's own words are "We never struggle to get students to turn up to class" and we're not surprised!  I wish Andrew was runnig this awesome program when I was at school!

Each group of students reverse engineer a race-kart chassis, reproducing one of their own design and then bolting on CPR Kart Parts components to create their own individual custom made race kart.

Last year the schools presented 11 immaculate hand-bult karts for judging by industry professionals and then set off to compete on the awesome ICDKC circuit.  Watch the video below as they "START THEIR ENGINES!" and run a few laps.

This year Andrew has another big field and we're looking forward to the results when they hit the track in October.

VIDEO Geoff's Lotus Build EPISODE 44 & 45 DOUBLE HEADER!
FRIDAY NIGHT FUN DOUBLE HEADER!  Geoff's Scale Lotus Build EPISODE 44 & EPISODE 45

EPISODE 42 "In this episode I DRIVE the cubman" - Geoff

EPISODE 43 "In this episode I do the final fabrication by making the bonnet skin and start on the wheel guards both of which will probably be finished off camera because paint hates me...
" - Geoff

If you love Geoff's build (like us) then you can show him your support by subscribing to his youtube channel - juscozcustoms -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKv0i4_r2pA

You've seen that dream car - the deep gloss paint glistening in the sun, beckoning you closer to touch it's smooth surface - to open it's door, jump into the driver's seat and turn that key (or press that button if your dream is a bit more modern). And then the reality hit's - it's not yours - and worse still, you can't afford it. It's the reality most of us motor enthusiasts suffer on a a daily basis. BUT WHAT IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO JUST DREAM?

That's when Geoff decided it was time to change the rules. Affordability didn't have to get in the way of his dream! He chose to build his own - a 1/2 scale version of a Lotus 7. BRILLIANT! We agree! Thinking outside the box or square or circle is what Geoff is also talented at, and because his project is going to be just as much fun, he's decided to take us all along for the ride! Thanks Geoff!

This is Geoff's thread. Using CPR Kart Parts components, Geoff willl build his very own 1/2 scale Lotus 7. Keep an eye on this thread AND subscribe to his youtube channel to keep updated! We'll also be sharing his videos on our facebook page.

Want to know more about Geoff? Here's a bit of a run-down on the man behind all the fun:

What is this awesome thing you've built?
"1/2 scale lotus 7"

Why did you decide to build this project?
Thought it would be cool and can't afford to build a full size one YET...

What is still left to do to finish it?
"Lots of little things then body work."

What are you going to do with it when it's finished?
"Glorious drifts using a pair of cpr drift rings and maybe even get it on a gokart track"

Why did you buy your parts from CPR?
"Good quality parts at an affordable price "

What was the best thing about the CPR parts you used?
"I can't fault them. The machining and finish is perfect"

What other motorsport stuff are you into?
"I build custom cars not necessarily race cars but they can go fast"

You can follow Geoff's build along with us on his thread on our site, including all the videos as they are posted on youtube here:
https://cutpriceracing.com.au/store/PROJECT-Geoff-Garth-s-1-2-Scale-Lotus-7/

All Australian Mower Racing Championship Race Meet!

The 2019 All Australian Mower Racing Championships were held in Shepparton on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of May 2019.
There were 89 Registered Entries from all QLD, NSW, SA and Victoria with Delegates from New Zealand fling over for a look.
Unfortunately on the day before Qualifying and Racing was to commence, Shepparton had more Rain in one day than they had had for the Year, making things very muddy and wet.

A day behind schedule due to the rain, it was decided amongst organisers and Club Delegates to Shorten the Program and get on with Racing.

Luckily the Sun Came out, and with no more sign of Rain, the Event Carried on with Qualifying , heats, Great food and Live Entertainment on the Saturday Night, continuing on the Sunday with more heats and some very competitive Finals Racing, everyone who had stayed on and braved the wet and mud had a great weekend.

Congratulations to all the Competitors.

HAVE YOU GOT SOMETHING YOU'D LIKE TO SHOW THE WORLD?

Project

Have you got a project you've completed using some CPR parts that you'd like to show the CPR Kart Parts community?

Email your project to [email protected]

along with a quick write-up of what you've done and why and we'll try to feature it in our future newsletters.

And remember, we're here to help you get out there racing!

You can always be sure your items will leave the same day you order as long as you've made payment by 2pm that day. Sure, it's a big claim, but I know shopping online is all about getting it before the weekend race day, and that's why I'm absolutely dedicated to getting our gear out the same day you order. I believe so strongly that this is a critical component of our business that I've devoted the last two hours of the day to ensuring just that. Don't be surprised if I can't get to the phone during these times as we're probably flat out! Just leave me a message and I'll call you back asap.

I know if you've bought from us before, you've had a great experience. Nothing's changed with our focus - we still want to help the average Australian race, but we're expanding our range every day so I'd love for you to check out our latest website updates and see if we can help you again, today. Go on, visit our store at www.CutPriceRacing.com.au - I mean, surely you've got a couple of minutes for fun?
