This week, we're featuring Sam Hines who is proving to us all that dirt karting is not just a fun passtime, but an outright addiction!

Just because Sam wears the famous Hines name doesn't mean he has it any easier - battling for the lead is still a tough challenge but with 19 years of dirt karting under his belt, Sam has been consistently placing at the front of his class and he doesn't intend on changing that anytime soon!

Congratulations on your passion and dedication to keep putting in the miles at your great family-focussed club - well done Sam, you're our featured profile this week!

DRIVER PROFILE- Ma Ma Creek - Lockyer Valley Dirt Track Kart Club

SIM RACING FEATURED DRIVER PROFILE

DRIVER PROFILE- Aussie Mixed & Fixed (AMF) online iRacing Club

Nathan Anderson

Not sure when Nathan started racing with AMF but in the early days Nathan would drop in for a race or two usually win or at least be competing for the top spot. Nathan had been running Wheely Bins with Sal Gallenti and Sal invited Nathan to run in our 2016 Le Mans 24Hr team, and since has been more so of a regular depending on his rugby commitments.

On the track Nathan is quick in everything much to the annoyance of his competitors, while others will spend hours honing in to gain seconds and tenths of a second Nathan is able to find the quick lines, optimal brake markers very quickly.

Due to life we’ve not seen how dominate Nathan could be, but us that know him our mind boggles what he could do if could dedicate more time. Off the track it gets worse, not only quite the steerer Nathan is gracious and in all a top bloke. Race time, he’s always at the front and battling hard with many competitors enjoying how clean and fair Nathan is but at the same how they need to performing to stay in front or keep up. On the aggressive scale we’d give Nathan a 6.5, as he will stick close and pounce on your mistake and actually will rarely see Nathan make a risky dive.

CLASS Monday’s, Amateur on Sunday’s and Thursday hard n fast series

RACE NUMBER 30

RACING EXPERIENCE Little bit of driving experiences at willowbank, and hitting apex’s on roundabouts and city streets

HOBBIES Sim racing, playing footy and any type of sport or motorsport

THIS YEAR'S GOAL Win win win

FRIDAY NIGHT FUN

Steve White's Grannybowl

This week: Steve White's Grannybowl

Steve White (Whitey) has a problem.  It's about 150m long, dirty and consumes rubber and 98 octane fuel like it's going out of fashion.  They call it the Grannybowl - a home built speedway track where Whitey and his mates race on their days off.  Sound like a problem you'd like to have?  Yep, count us in too!

Whitey doesn't do things by halves, he's created a hub for family and friends where they can relax and unwind with some awesome racing, a few drinks and a BBQ to top off an octane-rich weekend.  What's more this is not even his main gig - Whitey races speedway cars and uses the karts in the off season - Jealous much?

Running KT100S's is the flavour here, given their impressive power output for the price-point they are available at currently they represent incredible value for money.  The availability of parts from CPR Kart Parts to service the engines ensures Whitey and his mates have fresh reliable engines all year round.  And they need it, because the racing is close, competitive and 'contact' is referred to as 'rubbing' out there, so they aren't scared to trade some plastic and rubber!

Here's a run-down on Whitey and the Grannybowl.  Scroll down for some awesome pictures and videos of the facility in use.

What is this awesome thing you've built?

We built our own track in the backyard

Why did you decide to build this project?

Had a crazy idea one day to get a kart just for some backyard fun, we had no idea how carried away things would get.

What is still left to do to finish it?

Nothing, the track is built, and the karts are ready, When we can we just water it down, and have some fun.

What are you going to do with it when it's finished?

We won’t be finished for a long time. What started as just a couple karts mucking around in the backyard has now grown into a group of family and friends that come together for some Karting, BBQ and laughs, nothing serious - just pure fun!

Why did you buy your parts from CPR?

I had no idea about karts until I started dealing with Paul and the team at CPR, they were extremely helpful in guiding me in the rite direction. Sharing their karting knowledge and looking after everyone even the little backyard guys is what it’s all about. Whenever I need something (even if I don’t know what it’s called) CPR is the only call i make, they understand and track whatever it is down for me.

What was the best thing about the CPR parts you used?

Their Awesome service, it means my repeat business

What other motorsport stuff are you into?

Sprintcar background, hence why we built our own mini speedway for the days we’re not playing with the big cars

Find more videos, pictures and updates on the grannybowl on our site here https://cutpriceracing.com.au/store/PROJECT-The-Grannybowl/

VIDEO Geoff's Lotus Build EPISODE 36
FRIDAY NIGHT FUN
"in this video i make a stainless exhaust for the cubman it is 316 mirror finish stainless tube 32mm OD 1.5mm wall  and i do 9 degree cuts" - Geoff

If you love Geoff's build (like us) then you can show him your support by subscribing to his youtube channel - juscozcustoms - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUNOSjDKsO8

GeoffLotusEp36.JPG

You've seen that dream car - the deep gloss paint glistening in the sun, beckoning you closer to touch it's smooth surface - to open it's door, jump into the driver's seat and turn that key (or press that button if your dream is a bit more modern). And then the reality hit's - it's not yours - and worse still, you can't afford it. It's the reality most of us motor enthusiasts suffer on a a daily basis. BUT WHAT IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO JUST DREAM?

That's when Geoff decided it was time to change the rules. Affordability didn't have to get in the way of his dream! He chose to build his own - a 1/2 scale version of a Lotus 7. BRILLIANT! We agree! Thinking outside the box or square or circle is what Geoff is also talented at, and because his project is going to be just as much fun, he's decided to take us all along for the ride! Thanks Geoff!

This is Geoff's thread. Using CPR Kart Parts components, Geoff willl build his very own 1/2 scale Lotus 7. Keep an eye on this thread AND subscribe to his youtube channel to keep updated! We'll also be sharing his videos on our facebook page.

Want to know more about Geoff? Here's a bit of a run-down on the man behind all the fun:

What is this awesome thing you've built?
"1/2 scale lotus 7"

Why did you decide to build this project?
Thought it would be cool and can't afford to build a full size one YET...

What is still left to do to finish it?
"Lots of little things then body work."

What are you going to do with it when it's finished?
"Glorious drifts using a pair of cpr drift rings and maybe even get it on a gokart track"

Why did you buy your parts from CPR?
"Good quality parts at an affordable price "

What was the best thing about the CPR parts you used?
"I can't fault them. The machining and finish is perfect"

What other motorsport stuff are you into?
"I build custom cars not necessarily race cars but they can go fast"

You can follow Geoff's build along with us on his thread on our site, including all the videos as they are posted on youtube here:
https://cutpriceracing.com.au/store/PROJECT-Geoff-Garth-s-1-2-Scale-Lotus-7/

CLUB NEWS
SIM RACING - AMF SERIES - SEASON 1 WRAP UP

Steven Latimore's Bradbury Moment during Season 1 2019

SEASON 1 WRAP UP
Justin Cotterill has again turned on an impressive season of racing with over 40 contenders all attempting to take the coveted series crown and car number 1's bragging rights.

Both circuit racers and left-turn officiados were accounted for in a complex array of short tracks and vehicles designed to challenge even the most seasoned drivers.  The series was close at the top, with Steven Latimor and Nathan Anderson trading tit-for-tat results and battling hard all season, climaxing in a jaw-dropping finish in the final round for Steven Latimore who needed 2nd place to take out the series.

Sam Katakouzinos might trip up many a broadcaster attempting to pronounce his surname but it spelt success for him, showing impressive form all season.  Not missing an opportunity to score significant points Sam managed a 4th place in the series completing just a smidge over half of the rounds - and at the same time managing to hold out last season's #1 - Dean Ross - who had an addtional race start over Sam.  However, in Dean's defense he did have a shocker of an internet connection this season - keep an eye out for him next season Sam!

With so many highlights during the season, Paul Jones managed to disqualify himself from two rounds firstly by getting a bit too excited in the after-qualifying-crash-fest and by becoming dis-oriented mid-race at Detroit and driving the wrong way around the track.  The pole curse also kept Paul from converting both of his pole awards to wins.  However, mistakes aside, consistent attendence produced a 3rd place for the series.  He might not be the fastest, but he did show that turning up every week translates into a result.

Unfortunately Ryan Kolstad was out with an injury this season, but we're looking forward to seeing him in the drivers seat again next season.

Justin Cotterill netted some handy points this season and finished in the top 10.

Special mentions to Bruce Ross, Sal Gallenti, Grant Maddaford, Chris Pellat, and Javan Wood who were all formiddable opponents and along with the entirety of the league members offered great clean racing with an abundance of respect and sportsmanship.

And the jaw-dropping finish for Steven Latimore?  Steven ran out of fuel just metres from the finish line in the final race at Sonoma to miss out on the season win.  However, since Nathan Anderson did not contest the final round due to a kinky hook-up in the hospital with his better half, a few nurses, a doctor and an operating table, Steve Latimore may have felt it was fitting to hand Nathan the series win.

The season results were:
1st. Nathan Anderson

2nd. Steven Latimore

3rd. Paul Jones
