WEEK 27 2019 CPR KART-BEAT UPDATE

PaulsFace Hi there!

Welcome to our weekly update.

We missed last week's newsletter (everyone's alowed a week off now and then aren't they?!) due to the end of the financial year - there's lots of things to do at CPR around that time which keeps us super busy!  We've always got time for you though, so you may not have noticed us buzzing around like crazy people, because we're always answering your calls and getting your orders out the door as a priority - thank you for your support during this period, we really appreciate it!

WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK:  The wet weather put a dampener on some of the local events, but we've got a lot of club news this week so sit down with a cuppa or a beer and settle in, there's loads to read about!   We also had a small issue on the website which mean't we were down and out for a few hours just before everone woke up on Thursday - luckily we have an awesome web team on stand-by for just such an incident and they had the site back up and running by 8.30am on Thursday morning.  If you tried to visit the site and it was down we do apologise and thank you for being patient while it was restarted.  Thanks again to our web team, without you guys we couldn't help so many people get out in their karts on the weekend!

LATEST DIY GUIDE: Bought a new PRD 100cc Electric Start engine and need to connect the wiring loom?  Find out how straight forward it is in our new guide - scroll down to find it below.

CLUB NEWS.  This week we have and AWESOME MOWER VIDEO covering the SHEPPARTON ALL AUSTRALIAN TITLES - scroll down for that cracker!  We've also got news from lots of clubs, with racing happening at Hattonvale District Kart Club (Willowbank QLD), Ipswich City Dirt Kart Club (Willowbank QLD) and AUSKART (Lakeside Raceway QLD) who will also be running a come and try day.

CLUB NEWS - Online Sim Racing Series.  This week we learn some fun facts about Dean Ross from AMF.

FEATURED DRIVER PROFILE:  Harvey McLeod is our featured driver profile this week.

FRIDAY NIGHT FUN:  This week we go drifting with Mick Hynes as he shows you just how excited he is about his CPR upgrade on his trike, as well as continuing on with Geoff's awesome Cubman (Scale Lotus 7) video series.

Dean Ross

MONDAY NIGHT SERIES

"If you want to win on Monday night racing, for starters you have to beat Deano."

Dean is a long time racer and advocate for AMF Monday Night Racing, started in 2016 and come 2017 became a regular top contender in both our oval and road series. Dean is extremely competitive and if confident in the car and himself won’t just yield without a fight and won’t shy away from having a go.

Dean toppled Sal Gallenti and took an oval and a road series title in 2017, 2018 we combined the oval and road series and well Dean won all three of those.

On the aggressive racer scale we’d rate Dean 7/10, He is happy to follow and put pressure on but won’t pass up an opportunity. If you want to win on Monday night racing, for starters you have to beat Deano.

FRIDAY NIGHT FUN

Every Friday we'll be posting one of our fantastic customer DIY projects. These have been designed and built using quality CPR kart parts by guys and girls just like you! There's some really exciting stuff to check out, so keep an eye out each Friday for our next instalment!

This week: Mick Hynes Drift Trike Build

Mick loves his drift trike, in fact we wonder if Mick and his drift trike are spiritually connected... Because just a stock clutch wasn't enough for Mick's trike - he's upgraded to a torque converter on his engine to make this one hell of a ride!

Here's what Mick had to say about this build:

"As Paul has stated , Drift trikes are extremly tough on Centrifigal clutches so thought i would lash out and buy the TC1234 converter kit, kit was well packaged and of course was here the next day after ordering, very easy to instal after looking at CPR,s install vid, the biggest job was the pre-fitment mods i had to do, move rear disc brake assembly, move axle sprocket, make a raised/angled engine mount, after mods were done the actual kit went on VERY quickly.

The engine mount i made was from (2 pieces) 100mm x 120mm x 6mm flat and a bit of box 100mm x 50mm, all up materials cost $5, made mount to a 15 degree angle to clear rear sprocket nicely, was just a "quicky" weld together for a try but knowing me it will be now permanent-heheheh, i redrilled backplate 4 mounting holes to get TC as level looking as possible and added a hole to bolt rear backing plate to an exsisting threaded hole on GX200 Clone below exhaust for some "pull down under load" prevention.

The 4 supplied backing plate bolts for MY engine were a tad short so i bought 5mm longer, i believe i may need a 5mm or more longer crankshaft bolt as well since my bolt only enters crank threads by a few mm, would HATE for that front drive pulley to disengage under hi revs, Paul advises that we should also use a drop of BLUE loctite on this bolt.

The only prob i had was that i made engine mount LEVEL on the bench and it wasnt till after i sat welded mount on trike that i realised the top of mount WASNT level with rear axle which would put a bit of strain on the chain, so put a long spirit level across top of rear tyres and slightly packed uderneatneath wheels till axle was dead level (crappy concrete floor) then checked the ORIGINAL engine mount base plate, AHA, it was never welded level from the factory, it was out of level quite a few degress- no wonder chain was ALWAYS noisy. Modded newly made engine mount with a cut off wheel gap and rewelded. ALL GOOD.

The Difference..... YAHOO, engine can now slow or fast idle without trike trying to take off without its rider, BE CAREFUL on the first few times you go to move off or get into position cause if you hit that throttle a tad to hard trike will be all crossed up, this TC kit has amazing low down power ( hence the word Torque ), the power supply to the rear drive is a lot broader than it was with a OFF or ON centrifigal clutch so VERY easy to do BIG drifts in total control or tight little figure 8,s. Cant notice any difference to top end speed but the industrial area i often go to on a Sunday isnt that long and i dont REALLY want to risk running into a brick wall just for a "speed" test.

Conclusion.... LOVE IT.

P.S try half a bottle cap of Castrol R40 in the fuel tank, gives that amazing old racing fuel smell and acts as a upper cylinder lube.
Thank you so much Paul for suggesting this kit.

VIDEO Geoff's Lotus Build EPISODE 38 & 39 DOUBLE HEADER!
FRIDAY NIGHT FUN DOUBLE HEADER!  Geoff's Scale Lotus Build EPISODE 38 & EPISODE 39

EPISODE 38 "In this episode I smooth out the side panels then paint the body and various other components it is a short video because no one really wants to watch paint dry." - Geoff

EPISODE 39 "In this episode I finish off a few small things that needed attention" - Geoff

If you love Geoff's build (like us) then you can show him your support by subscribing to his youtube channel - juscozcustoms -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVyOPmH5-wo

GeoffLotusEp38.JPG

GeoffLotusEp39.JPG

You've seen that dream car - the deep gloss paint glistening in the sun, beckoning you closer to touch it's smooth surface - to open it's door, jump into the driver's seat and turn that key (or press that button if your dream is a bit more modern). And then the reality hit's - it's not yours - and worse still, you can't afford it. It's the reality most of us motor enthusiasts suffer on a a daily basis. BUT WHAT IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO JUST DREAM?

That's when Geoff decided it was time to change the rules. Affordability didn't have to get in the way of his dream! He chose to build his own - a 1/2 scale version of a Lotus 7. BRILLIANT! We agree! Thinking outside the box or square or circle is what Geoff is also talented at, and because his project is going to be just as much fun, he's decided to take us all along for the ride! Thanks Geoff!

This is Geoff's thread. Using CPR Kart Parts components, Geoff willl build his very own 1/2 scale Lotus 7. Keep an eye on this thread AND subscribe to his youtube channel to keep updated! We'll also be sharing his videos on our facebook page.

Want to know more about Geoff? Here's a bit of a run-down on the man behind all the fun:

What is this awesome thing you've built?
"1/2 scale lotus 7"

Why did you decide to build this project?
Thought it would be cool and can't afford to build a full size one YET...

What is still left to do to finish it?
"Lots of little things then body work."

What are you going to do with it when it's finished?
"Glorious drifts using a pair of cpr drift rings and maybe even get it on a gokart track"

Why did you buy your parts from CPR?
"Good quality parts at an affordable price "

What was the best thing about the CPR parts you used?
"I can't fault them. The machining and finish is perfect"

What other motorsport stuff are you into?
"I build custom cars not necessarily race cars but they can go fast"

You can follow Geoff's build along with us on his thread on our site, including all the videos as they are posted on youtube here:
https://cutpriceracing.com.au/store/PROJECT-Geoff-Garth-s-1-2-Scale-Lotus-7/

All Australian Mower Racing Championship Race Meet!

The 2019 All Australian Mower Racing Championships were held in Shepparton on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of May 2019.
There were 89 Registered Entries from all QLD, NSW, SA and Victoria with Delegates from New Zealand fling over for a look.
Unfortunately on the day before Qualifying and Racing was to commence, Shepparton had more Rain in one day than they had had for the Year, making things very muddy and wet.

A day behind schedule due to the rain, it was decided amongst organisers and Club Delegates to Shorten the Program and get on with Racing.

Luckily the Sun Came out, and with no more sign of Rain, the Event Carried on with Qualifying , heats, Great food and Live Entertainment on the Saturday Night, continuing on the Sunday with more heats and some very competitive Finals Racing, everyone who had stayed on and braved the wet and mud had a great weekend.

We had a small turn out. It was great to see all the members chip in and help out on the flags and in the pits again.

The track was boggy at the start after a few slow laps around it worked in well and we started racing.

Thanks to the canteen ladies again that money helps out so much to the club.

We had some great close racing. The 2 Rookies raced close and hard no bumping was great to see. We even had time to get the double seat go kart out again.

Have you got a project you've completed using some CPR parts that you'd like to show the CPR Kart Parts community?

Email your project to [email protected]

along with a quick write-up of what you've done and why and we'll try to feature it in our future newsletters.

And remember, we're here to help you get out there racing!

You can always be sure your items will leave the same day you order as long as you've made payment by 2pm that day. Sure, it's a big claim, but I know shopping online is all about getting it before the weekend race day, and that's why I'm absolutely dedicated to getting our gear out the same day you order. I believe so strongly that this is a critical component of our business that I've devoted the last two hours of the day to ensuring just that. Don't be surprised if I can't get to the phone during these times as we're probably flat out! Just leave me a message and I'll call you back asap.

I know if you've bought from us before, you've had a great experience. Nothing's changed with our focus - we still want to help the average Australian race, but we're expanding our range every day so I'd love for you to check out our latest website updates and see if we can help you again, today.
