125cc DIY KART
One of my mates brought a buggy off eBay with a 125cc pit bike engine in it. He recently replaced it with a KTM 300 (it's insane!)
So I got the old engine off him and decided to build a kart for it.
Was originally going to build the frame and everything for it but I found a full rolling frame on eBay for a couple hundred. Everything but engine and brakes (photo attached)
Just need to get some brakes on it once the motor is in
The little motor has got 3 gears plus reverse. I'm estimating itl do about 60-70

I've had to move the sprocket to in between the 2 axle bearings on the right hand side.
There isn't a key way there so does anyone know of a simple but effective way of fixing the sprocket carrier to the axle?
I had to cut out some of the brackets on the bearing carrier but will be re welding new ones to stabilize it.

Just remove axle, take it to local gokart builder or machine shop and have them machine keyway where you need it. Mark it out clearly. It should cost arround $25. Here in Adelaide we use Bensons to do it.

I'm fairly sure there is a go kart mob here in newcastle so I will look them up and ask about prices

Bit of an update guys. Have been busy so I haven't been able to work on it as much.
Got the engine all mounted up on the side.
Made up some diy pedals
And welded in a support to replace the one I took out
I couldn't find anywhere that would cut a key way in the axle to accommodate the new placement of the sprocket so I just cut one out myself with the grinder. Came up pretty good actualy. I was surprised how well it worked.
Have gotten a fuel pump and line, throttle cables and springs for the pedals from Paul at cut price racing. I will be ordering a new brake system and new off-road wheels from Paul when funds permit as well.
Next on the list is to fab up a tensioner for the chain and fab up the shifter so the stick is on the left side of the kart. (Don't want the engine to be getting in the way of your elbow when trying to shift.
